New Delhi. Maruti Swift is one of the most popular and affordable cars of the Japanese automobile brand. This car is very much liked in the Indian market. Swift is sold not only in India and Japan but in many countries around the world. This car is also available in markets like Australia and New Zealand.
Recently, the Maruti Swift was crash tested in Australia by the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), in which it was given only a 1-star rating.
What was the performance in ANCAP crash test?
Maruti Swift was also previously crash tested by Euro NCAP, where it received a 3-star rating. However, the features of the vehicle used in the Euro NCAP test were different from the Swift sold in Australia and New Zealand. According to ANCAP, this car could not meet the strength standards during the crash test.
In the adult occupancy category, Maruti Swift scored 18.88 points out of 40. The performance of the car in various tests was as follows:
Frontal offset barrier test: 2.56 points out of 8
Full-Width Frontal Test: 0 out of 8 points
Side Impact Test: 5.51 points out of 6
Oblique Pole Test: 6 out of 6 points
Apart from this, it scored 3.97 out of 4 points in whiplash protection for front passengers and 0.83 out of 4 points in rescue test.
Performance in Child Occupancy Category
For child safety, this car could score only 29.24 points out of 49 in the child occupancy category.
Front Dynamic Test: 5.47 points out of 16
Side Dynamic Test: 5.54 points out of 8
On-board Safety Features: 7 out of 13 points
Restraint Installation: 11.22 points out of 12
What does the ANCAP report say?
According to the CEO of ANCAP, the crash performance of Maruti Swift was much below average. This car was successful in performing well in side impact and pole tests, but its performance was very weak in frontal offset and full-width frontal tests.
Impact on Swift’s popularity in India?
Maruti Swift is known for its affordable price and excellent mileage in India. However, ANCAP’s 1-star rating raises questions on its safety features. In the Indian market, where price also matters along with safety, this report can influence the decision of customers.
