Bageshwar: Traditional beliefs are still followed in many hilly areas of Uttarakhand like Bageshwar, one of these traditions is plucking Brahma Kamal flowers. These flowers are considered a symbol of purity. These flowers are often found in the high Himalayan forests. Speaking exclusively to Local 18, priest Mohan Singh Koranga tells that these flowers are plucked especially for the Nanda Ashtami fair, many mythological rules are followed to pluck them.
First of all a journey of several kilometers is undertaken on foot. After reaching Bugyal, one takes bath twice and eats one meal. Flowers are worshiped before plucking them. After this, these flowers are plucked in Brahmamuhurta and offered to Mother Bhagwati. Flowers can be plucked only after following all the rules.

Brahma Kamal often grows in Bugyal, so to pluck it one has to trek from the village to Bugyal. The priest who plucks the Brahma Kamal is called ‘Jatar’ in the local language. He eats pure vegetarian food once and takes bath twice. Where there is Brahma Kamal, there is a symbolic temple of Mother Bhagwati. After reaching where all the priests take bath in Nandakund i.e. water pond. After bathing oneself, Shakti i.e. Mother Bhagwati is bathed.
Havan and Bhandara also take place
Havan is performed in the temple and the stores brought from the village are taken out. Which contains new grains, fruits and worship materials. Then the store is filled in the temple. After this, a group of all the priests go towards the flower gardens and a part of the garden is selected in which good flowers have grown. These flowers are plucked in Brahmamuhurta. One by one these flowers are filled in the basket.
Finally, the first flower offered in the temple is also kept in the basket. Baskets full of flowers are carried on the back and brought to the village temple. Where after the grand Brahma Kamal Yatra, flowers are offered to Mother Bhagwati and the flowers are distributed among all the devotees as Prasad.

According to mythological beliefs, Bahrakamal is considered to be the favorite flower of Mother Bhagwati. By offering this flower, Goddess Bhagwati becomes pleased and keeps her blessings. Generally, people keep the Brahma Kamal received as Prasad after the puja in the safe of their house, it is believed that doing so brings prosperity, prosperity and immense wealth in the house. Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu reside in Brahma Kamal.
