American Airlines flights have been resumed. A day before Christmas, all flights of American Airlines, the world’s largest airline operator, were stopped for about 2 hours.
This was done due to technical glitch on Tuesday morning. All the airline’s flights were grounded from 6 am to 8 am American time. The airline had lifted ground stops across the country at 8am, but did not provide any details about the ‘technical issue’.
FAA had announced to stop flights
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had announced the halt of all American Airlines flights due to technical glitches. FAA had given this instruction after all the operations of the airlines were stopped due to technical glitch.
We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers
At the time, American Airlines said in a statement, “Our teams are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience to our customers.”
American Airlines had said on social media platform X, ‘Passenger safety is our top priority. Once the fault is rectified, we will transport you safely to your destinations.
The airline itself had requested the FAA to stop flights
Millions of people fly American Airlines at Christmas. The airline itself had requested the FAA to stop all flights. Nearly 5 lakh passengers travel every day with American Airlines to 350 destinations in 60 countries.
Announcement was made to stop flights before boarding of passengers. According to American media reports, the announcement of stopping flights was made just 15 minutes before the boarding of passengers. Many videos of American airports were coming on social media, in which updates were being given to the passengers every 15 minutes. In this, American Airlines was telling that our system is down. We are not able to send crew members and passengers on the plane.
According to CNN report, the problem in the airline’s services was first reported by a disaster consultant named David Myers at 6:00 am on Tuesday. He was going to celebrate Christmas with his family by flight.
What is ground stop?
Ground stop is the most restrictive of the air traffic management majors. For this, special flights are required to remain on the ground based on criteria like airport, aerospace or equipment constraints.
Ground stop is usually implemented during serious capacity reduced systems. This includes weather related problems, technical issues or failure of air traffic control services.
Local and National Ground Stop
Ground stops can be of two types: local and national. In case of local ground stop, aircraft movement can be stopped from flying for up to 30 minutes, although this can be extended if necessary.
At the same time, National Ground Stop is done only in some cases. In this, ground stop is done under coordination between the affected facility and FAA.
