According to Superintending Engineer JP Verma, now instead of sending notices to the defaulters, action will be taken to directly disconnect their connections. The department has also started a campaign to disconnect connections of defaulters from Wednesday. Apart from this, with the aim of increasing revenue collection, the department is soon going to organize a mega camp, where the defaulters will be able to pay their bills and their problems will be resolved.
Relief from OTS scheme, but dues still heavy Recently, OTS (One Time Settlement) scheme was launched for large defaulters, under which Rs 52 crore was recovered. However, there are still many consumers who did not take advantage of this scheme nor took any steps to repay the dues. According to departmental data, there is an outstanding of Rs 56 lakh on 14 thousand consumers of private tube wells.
Strict measures from camps and raids In the month of October, the department registered 408 FIRs against electricity theft and disconnected 3,581 connections. With the aim of increasing the revenue, the department has set up 208 camps in the district and efforts are being made to stop theft by conducting morning raids. FIR has been registered against 483 consumers who were found stealing.
Warning for defaulters The department has also started action against those consumers who had promised to pay the bills by Diwali but did not follow the deadline. The connections of consumers whose outstanding is more than Rs 5,000 are being disconnected. JP Verma made it clear that no notice will be sent now, and their connection can be disconnected any time after the scheduled date.
